G. Michael Peters to Release Five Singles in Five Months. Read more below.
G. Michael Peters' latest single, Long Way Home, drops Friday, October 25, 2024. To the surprise of few, it’s already garnering rave advance reviews.
“The whole song is so unique and different from what there is now. I love the harmonization of the vocals in the chorus. It makes it sound similar to gospel music in a way. The music is a perfect sound to go with the song. The overall moodiness of the song stands out to me as well.”
“I love this fun little beat, super catchy and locked in the pocket with this fun bass line. The singer has a sweet melodic voice, very smooth, great lyrics.”
Long Way Home tells the all too familiar story of leaving the one you love to search for a way to redefine yourself, only to realize that what you were looking for was what you had all along. The track was recorded live off the floor, at the award-winning OCL Studios in Calgary, utilizing a recording process where musicians play together like a band on stage and are recorded as a single unit. “This was done to capture the live energy of the song,” says Peters. “We brought in top players; Steve Dawson on acoustic and electric guitars, Neil Havers on organ, Jeremy Holmes on bass, and Liam MacDonald on drums and percussion. They call themselves The Henhouse Gang. And I sang the lead vocals live. The band knocked it out of the park!”
The song was completely recorded, including overdubs, and mixed by the amazing, 2023 BC Country Music Association’s Engineer of the Year, Sheldon Zaharko, in just a single hour. Peters added all the layered background vocal harmonies himself later. It's the first of five singles Peters plans to release over the five months from October 2024 to February 2025. “I recorded guitars and vocals for two other singles, a ballad, ‘Should Have Led With My Heart’, and a quirky John Prine-influenced song called ‘Moonbeam’ while at OCL Studios. Those two will be coming out in January and February next year. But before that, I’m releasing two original Christmas songs ‘Let Your Christmas Spirit Shine’, and ‘How Many Christmases’ in November and December. I’ve been playing these songs live for a few years now over the holiday season and they’ve always been well received.”, said Peters.
“It’s a busy time right now for me musically”, Peters reflects, “but when the creativity train is rolling, you just have to jump on and let it take you for a ride.”
